I'm Michelle Reynolds, and I created The Unfurled Self because when I needed it nothing like it existed. I know firsthand what it feels like to finally have the framework to understand yourself, and how much of a difference that makes.
I'm a late-diagnosed AuDHD adult. I came to that understanding after years of wondering why certain things seemed so different for me. When I finally learned the framework to understand it, things shifted. Not because my brain changed, but because I learned what I needed all along. That experience is central to this work.
While lived experience is vital, I back my work with years of formal psychology and community mental health training:
Academic Foundation: I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Washington.
Clinical Environment Experience: I spent over two years working in intensive community mental health on a PACT (Program of Assertive Community Treatment) team as a Vocational Services and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist.
Neuroaffirming Training: Because neurodivergence frequently co-occurs within community mental health populations, I participated in intensive, specialized neuroaffirming clinician training. Additionally, I focus on staying up to date with empirical research within the field.
State Designation History: During my time in community health, I held an Agency Affiliated Clinician designation from the Washington State Department of Health and have extensive training in HIPAA and clinical standards that I bring into my personal practice.
A Note on Transparency and Care
To best serve you, it's important to establish clear boundaries: I am not a licensed therapist, psychologist, or medical professional, and this work is not therapy.
I am explicitly honest about this because psychoeducation and skills support offer something different from clinical therapy, alone: a collaborative, strategy-focused partnership dedicated to self-understanding and skill development. This support is real, powerful, and deeply significant on its own terms, or can be combined with therapy for wrap around support.
This work is built around you. What you are experiencing, what it means, and what you want to do about it.
Three pillars guide how we work together:
Validation: Making sure what you are experiencing is seen, heard, and accurately named without shame.
Reframing: Offering a neuro-affirming lens to look at what is happening and make sense of things in an empowering way.
Autonomy: You decide what is worth exploring, what you want to adapt, and what you want to leave completely alone. This isn't about fixing you; it's about giving you better tools to understand yourself.
I look forward to doing this work alongside you.
